Whisky tasting in the wilds of Scotland
When Rank asked us to create an inspirational experience for Grosvenor Casino’s northern clients in the UK, we imagined something traditional and exclusive in a remarkable location. What could be more traditional than whisky tasting in Scotland?
Setting the scene
For the small group of 25 VIP clients, we knew that intimacy and privacy were key for nurturing relationships and getting to know each other. We booked a classic stately hotel, the five-star Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort on an ancient woodland estate, as their bolthole for the weekend. Dating back to 1828, the hotel has all the charm and character for a grand stay.
As the guests were expected to arrive at various times, we booked tee times and spa treatments throughout the day for them to take at their leisure. This flexibility allowed everyone to stretch their legs or unwind after the journey.
The malt Master experience
In the evening, the guests headed to Glencoyne Distillery north of Glasgow for a tour and whisky tasting. A bagpiper greeted them on arrival and a welcome dram of a 10-year blend and canapés opened the festivities, before they embarked on a private tour of the distillery led by incredibly passionate guides who revealed the history of the place.
The malt master experience was the main focus of the evening, in which the guests were given five whiskies to blend to their own taste, which was bottled and sleeved for a bespoke finish. After the masterclass, a short stroll took them to the dining hall, where they found a private bar and tables set for a four-course dinner with wine. Each course had a paired dram of whisky, which made for some lively conversation! Cosy and warming, it was the classic highland experience.
As well as the distillery experience and deluxe accommodation, we took care of all travel in Scotland and all the little details that make an intimate experience like this so special.
